Vermonters can start voting in this summer's Republican, Democratic and Progressive party primaries on June 24.

During the early voting period, voters can request their ballots online through the Vermont Secretary of State's My Voter Page or through their town clerk's office. They can then return their ballot to their Town Clerk either by mail or in person.

The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022.

Below are the things people should know if they plan to vote.

People who live in Vermont can register to vote at any time, including on the day of the election. They can complete their registration either in person at their town clerk's office or on election day at their polling place. They can also register to vote through the Secretary of State's Office's website, sos.vermont.gov/elections/voters/registration.

People registering for the first time to vote in Vermont online must provide a photocopy of one of the following acceptable forms of identification: a valid photo ID (driver's license or passport), a current utility bill, a current bank statement, or another government-issued document.

People can also update their voter information, including the town in which they will cast their ballot, through their My Voter Page, mvp.vermont.gov.

Anyone planning to vote early or by mail in the Aug. 9 primary must request a ballot either online through the My Voter Page or through their town clerk's office by email, phone or in person. A list of contact information for town clerks and election workers can be found at sos.vermont.gov/elections/town-clerks.

This will not be the case for the Nov. 8 general election as all voters registered in Vermont will automatically receive a ballot, according to the Vermont Secretary of State's office.

People who choose to vote by mail will receive three ballots — one for each major party. Voters will then choose which party's primary they wish to participate in and record their votes on only one of those ballots, according to the Secretary of State's Office.

Voters must return all three ballots for their votes to count.

People can submit early ballots in person, either at their town clerk's offices before election day or at their polling place on election day. Voters can find their polling location on the My Voter Page.
