Electronic ballots counters from Laconia’s Ward One and Hopkinton were being audited Thursday.

New Hampshire’s Secretary of State David Scanlan said the point of the audit, which is now required by law, is to test the system for the general election.

He said the AccuVote machines have been used in New Hampshire for 30 years.

"We gage the reliability of those machines based on the high number of recounts that we do after elections are over," Scanlan said. "And the machines have proven themselves to be pretty accurate, but sometimes there are anomalies with the numbers and over time the legislature has felt that the time has come to start conducting some type of a post-election-audit."

Results will be released by noon Friday.
