WASHINGTON - Former President Donald Trump’s one-year campaign falsely claimed that he won the 2020 election and demanded corrections is turning voter fraud into a touchstone for the Republican Party’s search for public office as the party attempts to retake the House of Representatives and Senate.
Mr. Trump told advisers that this issue will help the party win control of Congress next year and win back to the White House in 2024. He privately proposed the possibility of announcing the presidential election in advance to emphasize this message to conservative voters.
